The Tampa Police Department was awarded a $600,000 grant in 2019 from the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance for a body-worn camera program. The grant allowed the department to purchase nearly 600 cameras for officers.

More about this technology

Many law enforcement agencies require officers to attach body-worn cameras to their chests or shoulders to capture interactions with suspects and the public. Some cameras stream live and can be combined with face recognition technology.
